RTE UP Admission 2022: The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE) is an Act of the Indian Parliament passed on 4 August 2009, which specifies the moralities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 years of age in India under Article 21a of the Indian Constitution. The Act makes education a fundamental right of every child between 6 and 14 years of age and sets out minimum standards in elementary schools. It requires all private schools to reserve 25 percent of seats for children (as part of the public-private partnership plan, the state must reimburse them). Children are admitted to private schools based on reservations of economic status or caste. It also prevents the operation of all unrecognized schools and provides for no contribution or capitation fees and no admission interview of the child or parent.
The Act also provides that no child shall be held back, expelled, or compelled to pass a board examination until elementary education is completed. There is also a provision for special school drop-out training to bring them up to par with same-age students.
