GATE Syllabus for Biochemistry: As we all know that Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) belongs to the All India examination which carries out the test of the complete understanding of the candidate in so many undergraduate subjects in Science Engineering, Technology, Architecture, or in post-graduate level subjects in Science Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science. GATE 2016 Syllabus for Biochemistry (XL-I) is at the priority level so get it soon!

GATE Syllabus for Biochemistry (XL-I):

Section 1: – Organization of life; Importance of water; Lipids, Proteins and Nucleic acids Structure and function of biomolecules: Amino acids, Carbohydrates, Protein structure, folding and function: Lysozyme, Ribonuclease A, Carboxypeptidase Myoglobin, Hemoglobin, and Chymotrypsin.

Section 2:  –Vitamins and Coenzymes, Enzyme kinetics including its regulation and inhibition, Metabolism and bioenergetics; Generation and utilization of ATP; Metabolic pathways and their regulation: Pentose phosphate pathway, gluconeogenesis, glycogen, glycolysis, TCA cycle,  oxidative phosphorylation and fatty acid metabolism; Metabolism of Nitrogen-containing compounds: amino acids and nucleotides, nitrogen fixation.Photosynthesis: Calvin cycle.

Section 3: – Biochemical separation techniques: size exclusion and affinity chromatography, ion exchange, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry Characterization of biomolecules by electrophoresis.

Section 4: –Biological membranes; Transport across membranes; Cell structure and organelles Signal transduction; Hormones and neurotransmitters.

Section 5: – DNA replication, transcription and translation; Recombinant DNA technology and applications, Biochemical regulation of gene expression, P and DNA-microarray, CR, site-directed mutagenesis

Section 6: – Immune system: Complement system, Active and passive immunity; Antibody structure, function and diversity; Cells of the immune system: T, B and macrophages; Major histocompatibility complex; T and B cell activation; T cell receptor; Immunological techniques: Immunodiffusion, RIA and ELISA, immunoelectrophoresis
