The whole application method is going to be online with the help of the information submitted by the candidates. The IIT Kharagpur Ph.D. admission applicants are requested to satisfy themselves on the quality of the program before they are applying.

a) Minimum 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (3.2.a and/or 3.2.b) in Engineering /Science /Commerce /Management/ Law and/or equivalent.
OR
b) Minimum 55% marks or a CGPA of half dozen in ten purpose scale in the qualifying examination (3.2.a and/or 3.2.b) in Humanities/Social Science/MBBS degree and/or equivalent.
A candidate is needed to be recruited to enroll for the Ph.D. program within 1 month of joining after the successful payment of the prescribed fees. All candidates enrolled for the Ph.D. programs are supposed to complete the following procedure:
iii. For students admitted on the idea of B.Tech, M.Sc. or equivalent degree: Lower Limit: 20, Higher Limit: 40.
If the grade obtained by a candidate in any subject is below ‘C’, the candidate is needed to repeat that subject and clear it with a grade not less than ‘C’.
b.Registration of a candidate for the Ph.D. degree shall stay valid, normally, for the date of ingress and shall remain valid for an amount of 8 (eight) years. The registration of a candidate could also be delayed by the D.S.C. and D.A.C.(PG&R) on account of off progress.
A candidate is going to be needed to submit the thesis before the expiration of the registration period. Within the event of a candidate failing to submit his amount, the registration shall lapse mechanically and may transfer the Written Test/Interview letter, if shortlisted.

On the prosperous completion of the seminar, the D.S.C. can suggest to Senate a panel of specialists, from the pane United Nations Agency, to examine the thesis and submit reports one by one on the work. The thesis shall be forwarded to two experts from the panel that shall submit reports separately on the thesis and forward their recommendation to the Registry.
Once the reports of the examiners are accepted as satisfactory the candidate can have to be compelled to defend his/her thesis before a test voice board consisting of all D.S.C. members and therefore the Indian‘external’ examiner.
A student who has completed satisfactorily all prescribed necessities and has cleared all fees and dues collectible to the Institute and therefore the Hall of Residence shall be eligible for the award of the Ph. D. degree of the Institute by the Board of Governors on the advice of the Senate.
