JEE Main Exam Pattern, (Paper-I & Paper-II) and Syllabus

JEE Main Exam Pattern: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will commence the JEE Main examination, and for this, all the applicants must be working hard. However, before anything else, if applicants are not aware of the pattern, they can be in a confused state of mind. Thus, one should have a crystal clear picture of the exam pattern:

JEE Main Exam Pattern:

JEE (Main) 2023 will be conducted in the following modes:

  • Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only.
  • Paper 2 A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen and paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on drawing sheet of A4 size.
  • Paper 2 B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode only.

Exam Medium:

Medium of the Question Papers: Drawing from the National Education Policy (NEP), the JEE (Main) 2023 will be conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi,
Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Scheme of Examination:

Paper 1: Engineering (B.Tech/ BE)

  • Mode of Exam: Paper 1 will be commenced in the online mode (CBT). Paper is based on objective type
  • Exam duration: The exam duration will be 3 hours. However, those who are disabled with 40 % and above will be given 4 hours rather than 3.
  • Marking scheme: 4 marks will be given for the Correct answer. There will be a negative marking and for every incorrect answer, a -1 mark will be deducted.

Paper 2: Architecture (B.Planning/B.Arch)

  • Mode of Exam: Paper 2 will be commenced in both modes i.e, Online & offline modes.
  • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Part I & II will be CBT Type and Part III will be “Pen and Paper Based” (offline) mode & attempted on a Drawing sheet of A4 size.
  • Paper 2B (B. Planning): “Computer-Based Test (CBT)” mode only.
  • Exam duration: The exam duration is 3 hours but those who are physically disabled will be given 4 hours and not 3.
  • Marking scheme: This paper will be based on the negative marking and for every incorrect answer, there will be a deduction of -1 mark.

Physics:

The topics included in Physics are Physics and measurement, Laws of motion, Rotational motion, Thermodynamics, Electronic devices, Oscillations and waves, Electromagnetic induction and alternating currents, Current electricity, Optics, Work, energy and power, Electrostatics, Kinetic theory of gases, Kinematics, Gravitation, Properties of solids and liquids, etc.

Mathematics:

Relations, Sets, and functions, Integral calculus, Matrices and determinants, Complex numbers and quadratic equations, Mathematical induction, Sequences and series, Binomial theorem and its simple applications, Statistics and probability, Trigonometry, Vector algebra, Permutations and combinations, Mathematical reasoning, etc.

Chemistry:

Organic Chemistry: The important topics are the Purification and characterization of organic compounds, Chemistry in everyday life, Organic compounds containing halogens, Organic compounds containing nitrogen, Some basic principles of organic chemistry, etc.

Inorganic Chemistry: Classification of elements and periodicity in properties, Hydrogen, D – and f – block elements, Environmental chemistry, Block elements (alkali and alkaline earth metals), Block elements group 13 to group 18 elements, etc.

Physical Chemistry: Some basic concepts in chemistry, Equilibrium, Atomic structure, Chemical thermodynamics, Chemical kinetics, Chemical bonding and molecular structure, States of matter, etc.

JEE Main Paper II & III (B.Arch/ B.Plan) Syllabus:

Part I: Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings, Materials, Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical, and Verbal), Visualizing, etc.

Part II: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, building forms and elements, color texture, harmony and contrast, subtraction, Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms, rotation, etc.
