NDA Exam Pattern, NDA Exam Structure & SSB Interview

NDA Exam Pattern: If you are planning to appear in the NDA examination for various posts in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force then you must have prepared well for the examination. You must the applicable way to know the examination pattern for the examination to get the complete idea of how the question paper actually appears. The examination pattern includes the written test, the intelligence, and physical tests. Given below are the completed details of the examination pattern:

NDA Exam Pattern:

Know the Exam Schedule: The examination is divided into two parts. It takes place twice a year via offline mode or says written test. NDA (I) will be commenced in the month of April and another test will appear in the month of September.

  • Examination Mode: The exam will take place in the offline mode
  • Answer Mode: Candidates are required to answer the questions with the black ballpoint pen by marking the correct answer.
  • Exam Duration: The exam duration will be for 150 minutes.
  • Type of Question: The question paper has consisted of Objective Type Questions
  • Paper: There will be two papers – Mathematics and General Ability.
  • Total Marks: The Mathematics paper for 300 marks and General Ability for 600 marks. The written test will be overall for 900 marks.
  • Negative Marking: There is negative marking. There will be a deduction of 0.33 marks on every incorrect answer.
  • SSB Interview: Once the written test is successfully clear, candidates will be moved for the interview which is for 900 marks.
  • Language: The question paper of Maths and Part B of the General Ability test is in both English and Hindi languages.

Exam Structure:

  • Maths for 300 marks
  • General Ability Test (Section-1: English) for 200 marks
  • General Ability Test (Section-1: General Knowledge) for 400
  • Written test marks: 900 Marks
  • SSB Interview for 900 Marks

Total marks for the entire competitive test includes 1800 marks

Intelligence and Personality Test:

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are :

  • Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on the combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.
  • Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests are given on the website joinindianarmy.nic.in.

The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz. The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO), and the Psychologist. There is no separate weightage for each test. The mks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in all the test. In addition, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of the Candidate in the three techniques and decision of the Board. All these have equal weightage.

The various tests of IO, GTO and Psych are designed to bring out the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly candidates are Recommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.
