Stage-1: Preliminary Examination:
The Preliminary exam will consist of one paper based on objective type (MCQ with OMR Answer Sheet) for 200 marks in the syllabus given below. This Examination will work as a screening test only and the marks acquired in the preliminary exam will decide the entry into Main Examination. However, the number of candidates moved to the main examination will be fixed according to the provisions mentioned in the recruitment rules.
Syllabus: Paper will appear in Multiple Choice Questions Type for 200 marks and time duration to complete paper will be 3 hours.
The subjects covered in the Preliminary Exam mentioned below:
- General Science: General appreciation and understanding of science, matters of everyday observation and experience expected of a well-educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific discipline.
- History: Wide understanding of the subject in social, economic, political aspects, social and cultural heritage of India, unity in diversity.
- Nagaland: Social, cultural, and heritage of the people of Nagaland.
- Geography: Geography of India (physical, social, economic, geography and on the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources)
- Indian Polity and Economy: India’s political, Executive, Judicial System, Local Bodies, Rural and Community Development, and Economic Planning in India.
- Indian National Movement: Deep information about Nineteenth-century resurgence, growth of nationalism, and gaining independence.

Stage-2: Main Examination:
If the candidate successfully clears Stage 1 (Preliminary) will move to Main Examination which will be consisted of three papers:
(a) General Essay, Comprehension, and Grammar.
(b) General Studies Paper-I will appear in objective type (Multiple Choice Questions with OMR Sheet)
(c) General Studies Paper-II in descriptive form with a long and short answer type.
Note: All three papers will be for 200 marks.

- There will be two General Essay Questions from the following topics:

General Studies Paper – I (Multiple Choice Questions) for 200 marks and time duration will be 3 hours The questions will be based on the following:
- The modern history of India and Indian culture.
- Current events of national and international importance.
- Statistical analysis graphs and diagrams.
- Basic and everyday science.
- Nagaland in all aspects. The modern history of India and Indian culture will be consisted of broad history of the country from the middle of 19 century (the advent of European invasion) and will be consisted of questions on Gandhi and Nehru. Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams will include exercises in order to test candidate’s ability to use common sense conclusions from information presented in a statistical, graphical and diagrammatical form and to point out deficiencies, limitations therein. Questions will be based on basic and everyday science that will be consisted of matters based on everyday observation and experiences of a modern man. General information on Nagaland may also be asked.
Paper-II (Descriptive) will consist of 200 marks for the duration of 3 hours.

Cut Off Marks:
