SSB or Service Selection Board is a known organization which is created by the Ministry of Defence, India. The service Selection Board is responsible to schedule, organizing, and commencing the SSB Interview of the candidates who are applying for Indian Military Forces. SSB Interview gets over in five days which includes two different stages – stage I & stage II. This entire process will be organized at the SSB Centers (designated by SSB). SSB Interview is also inclusive of Intelligence as well as Personality Test. Here are the complete details about SSB Interview 2022.

In Brief About SSB Examination:

Candidates applying for Army, Navy, Naval Academy, and Air Force need to attain minimum qualifying marks separately in the written test and Officer Potentiality Test.

Those who are applying for the Air Force need to qualify the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) & Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) both separately.

PABT Test is for the candidates whose first choice is Air Force. PABT is also commenced by SSB qualified candidates with one of the choices as the Air Force.

Pilot Aptitude Battery Test is a test that aims to assess the candidate’s aptitude to be trained as a pilot. Candidates can apply for PABT only once in the lifetime. PABT comprises of three tests – Control Velocity Test (CVT) Instrument Battery Test (INSB), and Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA).

SSB Interview Round:

Candidates are required to successfully complete one of the exams for moving to SSB Interview 2022. The exams include:

  • National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA Exam)
  • Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
  • Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)

SSB Interview is for qualified candidates only. It is mandatory for all qualified candidates to appear in SSB Interview round for final selection.

The final selection is based on the marks attained by the candidate in the examination and SSB Interview. Candidates are required to report for SSB rounds on the fixed date to the candidates mentioned in the call letter for the interview.

The SSB Interview 2022 is a two-stage process- stage I and stage II. Stage (I) includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT). Stage (II) includes Group Testing Officer Tasks, Interview, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. These tests will be commenced over 4 or 5 days for 900 marks.

SSB Interview 2022 Process:

The SSB Interview 2022 Process comprises of the two-stage selection process: Stage I & Stage II. Those who qualify for Stage I will move onto Stage II. The complete process is here:

  • Stage 1 Interview: This stage includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT), and screening test. Candidates will be selected on the basis of combined performance in the OIR Test and PP & DT.
  • Stage 2 Interview: This stage gets over in four days. SSB Interview for Stage II includes various tests such as Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks), Psychology Tests, Interview & Conference.

All about Five Days SSB Selection Process:

SSB Interview Day 0 – (Reporting) This is a crucial day where the candidate has to report at the selection center along with original documents and photocopies for verification. Once the document verification is over, Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) Forms will be filled.

  • PIQ Forms: This form is important to fill by the candidate. The candidate needs to fill all the personal details such as family background, educational profile, etc. This form has a base of questions, which help for an aspirant for the individual interview round. The responses will be fully analyzed by the psychologist of the Board.

Day 1: Day one is for Screening Test. The candidate is required to give an Intelligence Test (Verbal & Non-Verbal) & Picture Perception Test. In PP or Picture Perception Test, a slide (hazy or clear) is shown to the candidate for 30 seconds and the candidate will write the story. After this test gets over, there will be a group discussion. This sequence is commonly known as Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT).

  • Intelligence Test: It consisted of verbal and non-verbal questions. It is a written test comprised of multiple-choice questions. The candidate will be given 30 seconds to answer a question.
  • Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT): This is yet another important test that includes story writing as well as discussion. The candidate will be shown a picture for half a minute and after that candidate will make a story based on that within three minutes.

Day 2 (Psychology Tests): It is a written test organized by a Psychologist. In all these tests, the psychological suitability of the candidate will be checked to ensure an officer. These tests include the following:

  • Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): This is called Picture Story writing. This test is the same as the PPDT. In this test, eleven pictures will be shown to the candidate. Each picture will be shown for 30 seconds and after that candidate will write a story entirely based on the picture in the duration of 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, a new picture will be shown and the same process will be followed till the last slide. The twelfth slide will be blank where a candidate will write a story of their own choice.
  • Word Association Test (WAT): This is the second psychological test of the SSB selection procedure. In this test, 60 words will be shown back to back for a period of 50 seconds and the candidate will write the first thought that comes to their mind for those words.
  • Situation Reaction Test (SRT): In this test candidate will receive a booklet with 60 situations written on it. The candidate then will write the responses based on 60 situations.
  • Self Description Test (SD): In this test, the candidate will write their views about their parents, themselves, and teachers, etc. The candidate will be given 15 minutes of time duration.

Day 3 & Day 4 – Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks): All these tests comprise of interactive indoor/outdoor activities as a combination of mental and physical work. These tests are as follows:

  • Group Discussion: In this round, a particular situation is given to a group of candidates and they will discuss several aspects of the issue. Group Task Officer will observe each candidate during the course of the group discussion.
  • Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise): During this round, a model of real-life practical circumstances will be given to the group of applicants. They will write their own plan of action for the problem.
  • Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): In this round, the group of the candidate will overcome a few obstacles with the help of supporting materials like rope, plank, wood log, etc.
  • Half Group Tasks: This round is almost similar to PGT but the number of group members will be half. Candidates will get more chances to show their potential.
  • Individual Obstacles: In this round, the candidate will attempt 10 obstacles individually.
  • Group Obstacles Race or Snake Race: In this round, all group members will go through a competition with other groups. Candidates will go through certain obstacles with the help of a rope.
  • Command Task: In this task, the aspirant will be a commander and he will be required to cross obstacles through a few subordinates.
  • Lecturette: In this round, the candidate will give a lecture for the duration of three minutes on a specific topic chosen by them.
  • Final Group Task: This test is also the same as PGT and candidates will get the chance to show their potential.
  • The candidate’s interview will be commenced on the same day which involves a personal conversation and Interviewing Officers.

Day 5 (Conference) This is the final day where candidates along with SSB board members sit together and chat with the candidates and ask a few questions. The conference will help in deciding whether you are capable of being an officer in Indian defense forces or not. Candidates need to come in front of the Board of Examiners (President, Deputy President, all the GTOs, all the psychologists & Technical Officer).

In an hour, the SSB Result will be announced after the completion of the board meeting. Chosen candidates will go through the medical test for further 3 or 5 days. After qualifying the candidate’s medical test, the final merit list will be created and announced.

Documents needed for SSB Interview 2022:

Candidates will carry their original documents and will produce them after qualifying the SSB Interview. The documents will be given back after verification is over. Following documents are needed for the interview:

  • 10+2 or Equivalent Examination Mark Sheet & Passing Certificate.
  • Ten passport size photographs.
  • Call Letter.
